BBC NEWS KOMLA DUMOR AWARD 2025

In the 10th year, the BBC News Komla Dumor Award will be made to an outstanding individual living and working in Africa, who combines strong journalism skills, on-air flair, and an exceptional talent in telling African stories with the ambition and potential to become a star of the future. 

ELIGIBILITY:

To apply for this prestigious award, you must be currently living and working as a journalist in Africa. 

You must also have the following skills and experience: 

Excellent journalism skills, including in digital and social media

Broadcasting experience is preferable

An excellent broadcasting personality, voice and strong presenting skills with the ability to perform at the microphone and in front of the camera with flair

The ability to identify and pitch a strong original African story idea, aligned to the BBC editorial guidelines http://www.bbc.co.uk/editorialguidelines/ 

Wide and up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the African continent, including politics, business, culture, history and sport

Fluency in English as a first or equivalent language

You must provide the BBC with your name, email and postal address if you wish to enter for this award.

The deadline for receiving entries for the award is final. This is 23.59 hours (GMT) on 20th March 2025. No entries received after this date will be considered.

BENEFIT:

Salary: The BBC will pay for the winner’s flights to and from the UK and for their visa. We will also arrange and pay for the winner’s accommodation in London during their placement. The winner will receive a basic journalist salary during the three months in London (tax and deductions will be made as appropriate).

SENIOR ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT AT UNESCO

LOCATION: Nigeria

Under the overall authority of the Head of the Office and the direct supervision of the Finance and Administrative Officer, the incumbent provides high-level administrative and support services in a range of specialized areas and plays a lead role within the unit in ensuring application and compliance with the rules, regulations, policies and practices in place. 

ELIGIBILITY:

Education: Completed secondary, technical and/or vocational education.

Work Experience: Minimum 8 years of relevant professional experience in administration, finance, accounting, or audit.

Skills and competencies: Excellent analytical skills and capacity to make sound judgements.

Proven experience in problem solving in the field of Human Resources, finance and budget.

Ability to provide quality and timely support and services.

Ability to deal with confidential matters with tact and discretion.

Ability to build effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external partners.

Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to establish good working relationships.

Ability to take initiative and seek innovative ways to improve results.

Excellent IT skills with proficiency in the use of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and ERP systems. 

Languages: Excellent knowledge (oral and written) of English.

Desirable Qualifications:

Education: Technical Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or related discipline. 

Experience: Experience in the field of human resources.

Relevant work experience within an international organisation and/or the UN System.

Experience in elaborating reports to monitor budget implementation and analyzing financial information.

Skills and competencies:

Knowledge of SAP.

Knowledge of risk management systems.

Knowledge of contract management.

Knowledge of accounting principles and internal control systems.

BENEFIT:

UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan etc.

The approximate annual starting salary for this post is 22 559 US Dollars.
