IN-COUNTRY/IN-REGION PROGRAMME SUB-SAHARAN AFRICA (DAAD)

The programme aims at fostering strong, internationally oriented higher education systems in Sub-Saharan Africa with the capacity to contribute to sustainable development. To this end, scholarships are granted for development-related Master studies for individuals who plan to pursue a career in teaching and/or research at a higher education institution in Sub-Saharan Africa.

ELIGIBILITY:

Graduates and postgraduates from Sub-Saharan Africa with a first academic degree if applying for a Master’s programme who want to pursue Master’s degrees in their home country or in the country for which they have a residence permit (so called In-Country scholarships) or in another Sub-Saharan African country, outside their home country/in the country for which they do not have a residence permit (so called In-Region scholarships).

Female applicants and candidates from less privileged regions or groups are especially encouraged to apply for funding.

UNIVERSITY OF SUSSEX CATE HASTE SCHOLARSHIP IN HISTORY (2026)

The University of Sussex is delighted to offer this scholarship to a History applicant starting in September 2026, named in honour of Sussex alumna Cate Haste.

ELIGIBILITY:

To be eligible for this scholarship you must have accepted an offer to study History MA  at the University of Sussex, commencing in 2026.

Applicants assessed as ‘Home’ or ‘Overseas’ for fee purposes are both eligible to be considered.

All eligible offer holders who have accepted their offer by the deadline will be considered for this scholarship.

Applications will be considered by the panel on the information provided in your Masters application.

All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application before the end of July 2026.

This scholarship is available for the 2026/27 academic year only, if a scholar defers or temporarily withdraws from their course, they will no longer be eligible to receive the scholarship.
