THE FORREST RESEARCH FOUNDATION FELLOWSHIPS

Forrest postdoctoral fellows are more than just intellectually brilliant. They are adventurous, curious, open to ideas from anywhere. Forrest Fellowships are offered to early-stage postdoctoral researchers who have outstanding academic profiles and who have already made significant personal research contributions within and beyond their discipline.

ELIGIBILITY:

To be eligible to apply applicants must be in their final year of PhD or no more than two years post PhD conferral. 

have had their PhD conferred on or after 1 January 2022, or will have successfully completed all the requirements for the award of their PhD by 31 December 2024.

be intending to reside at Forrest Hall for the duration of the Fellowship (exemptions may be considered by the Governors of the Forrest Research Foundation).
have been offered and accepted an employment contract at a Western Australian university. The Forrest Foundation will liaise with the nominated university to issue the employment contract to successful fellowship applicants.

have received their PhD conferral before taking up their appointment.

take up the Forrest Fellowship and commence employment at the relevant university within 12 months of being awarded the Fellowship.

agree to reporting their progress to the Forrest Research Foundation Director and the Minderoo Foundation each year.

BENEFIT:

The Forrest Research Foundation will provide funding for:

Salary

Salary consistent with a Level A Step 8 appointment (for example The University of Western Australia Salary Scales approximately $99,905 in salary plus 17% superannuation)

Accommodation Allowance

An accommodation allowance of $24,128 per annum in 2024 (subject to marginal tax rate)

Research and travel allowance

A once-off research and travel allowance of up to $12,000. This allowance is available for approved research-related expenses, overseas research, and conference travel. 

Relocation allowance

All interstate and international Fellows can apply for a relocation allowance, including an economy airfare to Perth, which can be discussed with the Director if successful.

SANCTUARY SCHOLARSHIP FOR PEOPLE SEEKING ASYLUM AND REFUGEES WITH TEMPORARY PROTECTION

The Sanctuary Scholarship for People Seeking Asylum and Refugees with Temporary Protection has been established to support talented students who are asylum seekers or refugees on temporary visas with the opportunity to pursue tertiary education at UNSW. Students who are asylum seekers or refugees on temporary visas with a genuine interest and passion to undertake studies at UNSW are strongly encouraged to apply for this Scholarship

ELIGIBILITY:

To be eligible, applicants must:

Be an international applicant commencing an eligible UNSW coursework degree program in Term 3 2024*; and,

Be an asylum seeker or refugee currently holding** one of the following visas:

Temporary Protection Visa (Subclass 785)

Safe Haven Enterprise Visa (Subclass 790)

Bridging Visa***

Temporary Humanitarian Concern Visa (Subclass 786)

Humanitarian Stay (Temporary) Visa (Subclass 449)

*Students may submit an application if they have applied to UNSW for a coursework degree program commencing in Term 3 2024 (via UAC or direct to UNSW at apply.unsw.edu.au) and have not yet received an offer of admission. However, an offer for this scholarship will only be made once an unconditional offer of admission has been issued.

**The eligible visa must be ‘in effect’ by the application deadline.

***Applicants holding a bridging visa, will also need to submit a letter or relevant documentation from a recognised organisation supporting their status as a refugee or asylum seeker, and must ensure they have Australian study rights whilst holding that visa.

To enable UNSW to verify that the applicant holds one of the specified visas, the applicant must include in their application a copy of their current passport, or the travel documentation used to enter Australia. Accordingly, a copy of one of the following documents must be provided:

Immicard

Titre de Voyage

PLO56 (M56)

Document For Travel To Australia (DFTTA)

Documentation and visa status will be checked using the Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) service. Please contact UNSW Scholarships if you are unsure about the documentation requirements.

BENEFIT:

The Scholarship will comprise of:

A full tuition fee scholarship paid directly towards tuition fees for the minimum duration of program*

A $5,000 per annum stipend paid fortnightly over the calendar year

On-campus UNSW Accommodation (where accommodation is identified as a barrier to studying at UNSW) to a maximum value of $25,000 per annum paid directly to an approved UNSW Accommodation provider

If the recipient does not choose to stay at on-campus accommodation, their stipend will instead be increased to a maximum of $10,000 per annum
