OIST RESEARCH INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

LOCATION: Japan

The OIST Graduate School offers education and research opportunities through our Research Intern program in STEM fields. The duration of the internship is typically from 2 to 6 months. These short-term placements give students the opportunity to gain experience in a particular laboratory or to learn a specific technique. Interns will work under the direction of a Professor and contribute to the research activities of OIST.

ELIGIBILITY:

Students who are in the final two years of the undergraduate or master’s program in Japan or overseas can apply.

The students who have recently graduated can apply.

The students who are currently enrolled must have approval for the OIST internship from their home institution.

The applicant’s academic background must follow the desired internship unit at OIST.

Internships may begin and end at any time during the year, with two application periods. For details about the application process and deadlines, please see the section “Apply to Research Internship.”

BENEFIT:

OIST will provide the following support for successful applicants.

Internship Allowance

JPY 2,400 per working day (Non-taxable and weekends excluded)  

Commuting Allowance

OIST Shuttle Bus Pass

Travel Expenses

One direct round-trip air ticket (travel date will be closest date to the term of placement)

Accommodation

Furnished apartment on or off campus

Other Support

OIST will also assist in visa acquisition, insurance procedures, and local registration. This will only be provided for the student. Therefore, this does not pertain to the dependents and family members of the student.

IMF FUND INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Are you within a year or two of completing your PhD in economics or a related field or completing a Master’s degree in economics?

The International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Internship Program (FIP) may be the right opportunity for you! 

ELIGIBILITY

To compete for the FIP, at a minimum you must meet the following criteria:

PhD students

Be within one to two years of completing a PhD in macroeconomics or a related field.

Be in student status at the time of the internship (i.e. continuing PhD studies after the internship).

Be below the age of 32 at the commencement of the internship.

Have an excellent command of English, written and oral.

Possess strong analytical, quantitative and computer skills.

Master’s students

Completing a Master’s degree in macroeconomics or a related field.

Below the age of 28 at the commencement of the internship.

Have an excellent command of English, written and oral.

Possess strong analytical, quantitative and computer skills.

Only candidates who are identified for further consideration will be contacted by a FIP recruiter. Incomplete applications will be rejected.

The minimum duration is 10 weeks and the maximum duration is 12 weeks.

BENEFIT:

This internship is paid.

If you are not a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S., and do not have another work authorization that would allow you to work at the IMF, you will need a G4 visa. We will provide the paperwork necessary to facilitate your G4 visa request with U.S. authorities.
